Staff Benefits for Jersey and Guernsey Teams

Picture two people from the same firm on a Tuesday lunchtime. One is queuing for a sandwich in St Helier. The other is picking up a coffee in St Peter Port. Same employer, same job title, same staff benefits package. The question that matters is a simple one: can both of them use it, right there, today?
For plenty of employers with teams in Jersey and Guernsey, the honest answer is no. The package came from a UK catalogue built around national chains and online codes, and on either island much of it is a brochure rather than a benefit. This guide is about staff benefits for Jersey and Guernsey teams: what makes a two-island benefit harder than it looks, what to check before you buy, and where LinkLocal fits today.
Why are staff benefits harder when your team is split across two islands?
Because you are not running one team in one market. You are running two teams in two separate places that happen to share a stretch of sea. Jersey and Guernsey are separate Crown Dependencies, each with its own government and its own way of doing things. Each person lives, shops and spends on their own island, so a benefit has to work where each of them actually is.
The shape of each workforce is worth knowing before you choose anything.
- Jersey. Statistics Jersey counted 64,680 jobs in December 2025. Of the island's 8,710 private-sector undertakings, 90% employed fewer than 10 staff. Only 190 employed 50 or more, and about 70 of those were in financial and legal activities (Statistics Jersey, labour market and employment).
- Guernsey. The States of Guernsey reports that in June 2024, 32,067 people were employed or self-employed in Guernsey, and there were 2,217 employers. It also reports that 22.9% of all employment roles were finance, legal or accounting roles (States of Guernsey, population, employment and earnings).
The two islands count their labour markets in different ways, jobs on one and people on the other, so these figures are not a like-for-like comparison and should not be added together. The shared pattern is the useful part: lots of small employers, a strong finance and legal sector, and a short list of larger firms. It is also a sector where firms often run offices on both islands, which is where the two-island benefits question tends to come up.
Hiring pressure makes the choice matter. In Statistics Jersey's Business Tendency Survey for June 2026, staff and/or skills shortages was the most reported factor limiting Jersey businesses, cited by 50%. When good people are hard to find, a benefit that half the team cannot use is a wasted lever.
What goes wrong with a UK benefits catalogue on the islands?
Most UK benefits platforms are built for the UK mainland. That is not a criticism, it is their market. But it shapes what a Jersey or Guernsey employer actually gets for the money.
- The catalogue is national. Large UK platforms lean on national retailers and online discount codes. When we checked in August 2026, not one independent business was named on the discount pages of three of the biggest UK platforms. A code for a mainland retailer does very little for someone on their lunch break in St Peter Port or St Helier.
- Headline perks may not reach you. A Head of People reviewing a national platform on Capterra in April 2023 wrote that a fuel-card perk was one of the main features that attracted her firm, and that only after signing up did they learn it applied to mainland UK only, while 90% of her staff were based in Northern Ireland. Anything scoped to mainland UK leaves Jersey and Guernsey out in the same way.
- The product is built for big employers. The CIPD's Reward survey (February 2026) found that 53% of UK employers with 250 or more staff provide third-party discount schemes. Those schemes do not appear in the report's tables for SMEs. On two islands made up mostly of small employers, that tells you who these products were designed for.
There is also a problem that only a two-island employer has. If a catalogue works a little better on one island than the other, the team in one office ends up with a weaker benefit than colleagues doing the same job a short flight away. Nobody intended that, but staff notice it.
A staff benefit only works on the island where it can be spent.
What should a two-island staff benefit actually do?
Five tests cover most of it. Put them to any provider, including us.
- It is spent where each person lives. The perks staff tend to use are everyday ones: coffee, lunch, the weekly shop, a haircut, the gym. Our look at local staff perks Jersey teams actually want covers why. Ask the provider to name, in writing, the businesses that are live on each island today.
- It is the same deal in both offices. Everyone gets the same access from day one, wherever they sit. Nothing should depend on a manager choosing who gets what.
- There is nothing to expire or forfeit. Value held in a points wallet can run out on a clock or disappear when someone leaves. Read the terms on expiry and leavers before you sign.
- The admin is light. A small office on each island rarely has a dedicated benefits team. Look for one setup, staff joining with their work email, and no claims or receipts to process.
- Both offices can see it working. Ask how you will know each team is actually using it, island by island, so neither office quietly falls behind the other.
Spend that stays on each island matters beyond your own team, too. Money spent with local independents keeps circulating locally, which is the case made in why local loyalty matters in Jersey, and the same logic holds in Guernsey.
Where does LinkLocal fit for Jersey and Guernsey employers?
Here is where we are today, plainly.
In Jersey, LinkLocal is live. Employers pay, staff use it free, and the team gets 90+ live benefits at local businesses across cafés, wellness, retail, food, fitness, family activities and local services. Staff join with their work email, browse in the app or on the web, and redeem in store or online. There is nothing for HR to administer day to day. For the full Jersey picture, see our guide to small business employee benefits in Jersey.
In Guernsey, we are preparing to launch, and we are not live for members yet. The aim is the one on our homepage: one membership, two islands. When the Guernsey app launches, staff will be able to use offers from merchants in both Guernsey and Jersey. Until then we will not claim a Guernsey network that is not live, and you should hold every provider to the same standard.
So if you have teams on both islands, the sensible order is to start where a local network is already live and talk to us about Guernsey timing, rather than buying a UK catalogue for both offices that works well in neither.
Frequently asked questions
Can one staff benefit cover both Jersey and Guernsey?
Yes, if it is built to be spent locally on both islands rather than through a UK catalogue. Ask each provider which businesses are live on each island today, in writing, and compare like with like. LinkLocal is live in Jersey with 90+ live benefits and is preparing to launch in Guernsey.
How do I keep benefits fair between my Jersey and Guernsey offices?
Give both teams the same access from day one, and judge each island on what staff can actually use there, not on what the catalogue lists. If one island has fewer live options today, say so openly and set a date to look at it again.
Is LinkLocal available in Guernsey yet?
Not for members yet. We are preparing to launch in Guernsey, and when the Guernsey app launches one membership will cover offers from merchants on both islands. Today, LinkLocal's 90+ live benefits are in Jersey.
Do UK staff benefit platforms work in the Channel Islands?
Many can be used here, but much of what they offer is built for the UK mainland: national chains, online codes, and some perks scoped to mainland UK only. Some providers do run local programmes, so before you sign, ask which of the headline perks actually redeem on each island where you employ people.
What should a small firm with staff on both islands do first?
Ask your people on each island what they would actually use. Check that list against real local businesses on each island. Then choose something with light admin, nothing that expires, and a setup that suits a small office.
LinkLocal is a local staff rewards platform. In Jersey, employers give their team 90+ live benefits at island businesses, staff use them free, and the money stays local. Guernsey is preparing to launch. Find out more for employers or for businesses.
